Discovering Jesus!

Who is Jesus?

It is astonishing to think that for more than two millennia there is a name that has continued to capture the hearts and minds of men, women and children right around the world, and continues to influence and transform the trajectory of the entire human race. Still today humanity continues to wrestle with this one life altering question, “Who is Jesus?”

Historically, Jesus was born in a small rural town more than 2000 years ago. Yet despite these small and humble beginnings, Jesus began a public ministry where he performed many miracles, preached inspiring messages, and proclaiming by His words and His works that He was God. His main passion while on earth was serving people. In his ultimate act of service Jesus died on the cross and was raised to life so that through him we can overcome sin and death by finding hope and friendship with God. Finally, Jesus told us to expect his return at some future time when he will put things right in this world.

Jesus is the most amazing person who ever lived, and here at Camberwell Baptist as those who believe in his message and have chosen to commit our lives to follow him, Jesus continues to shape our lives. So Jesus is more than just an amazing model, but because he has given his followers his living Spirit as a daily companion, we can experience Jesus as a living friend. It is in response to this relationship with Jesus Christ that the church now exists, as we are moved to call him Saviour, and offer our lives to serve Jesus in the world.

In the midst of a great deal of speculation about who he was, Jesus asked this same question, but he made it personal, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ One of His disciples, Simon Peter, replied: ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Still today, two thousand years later, Jesus continues to invite us to look beyond the endless speculation, and make our own personal response to this question, ‘Who do you say I am?’

If would like to know more about the person of Jesus and shape a response to this question, we have numerous opportunities to explore these claims about Jesus for yourself. Every week we have worship gatherings, small groups and lots of programs where we teach about Jesus and discuss his significance for our lives, so come and explore, no strings attached.

To anyone who would like to know Jesus as a living friend, Jesus said: everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened (Matthew 7:8). So if you want to know who Jesus is, then start exploring, and remember wherever your journey is beginning from, you don’t need to look that far!
