Children & Families

KidSPARK is a time
of discovery and excitement!
Here at Camberwell Baptist, we love that kids are part of God’s kingdom, and are very much a loved part of our church family! We have a Sunday morning children’s ministry program, called KidSPARK, which runs every Sunday during term time.
Children are part of our worship service for the first 20 minutes of the Sunday service, and then after the Kids’ Spot the kids move into the hall for KidSPARK. We aim to provide a program with lots of different age-appropriate elements (singing, reading, teaching, games, crafts and activities), through which kids can explore and engage with who God is, as He has revealed Himself in the Bible (and ultimately in his son Jesus Christ!). All of our leaders have current Working with Children checks, and are active and valued members of our church.
We love that kids are involved in our church family through various opportunities to grow by serving and blessing our church family. From time to time they have various roles in the service, and also do things like help to plan and run special morning teas, and help the men and women in our church family feel valued and appreciated on Fathers and Mothers Day (not just Mums and Dads!).

During free playtime, the hall is set up with a wide variety of equipment including climbing frames, ride on toys, tunnels, ball play and much more. During story and singing times we ask that parents/carers provide a role model children by sitting with them quietly and encouraging them to listen and participate in the story & singing times.
Children sit down and eat morning tea together. Due to COVID restrictions we ask that all parents bring morning tea for their child. Please be aware that we operate a NO NUTS policy.
As we are part of a Baptist Church, our programme does, at times, have some Christian themes and we do say grace before the children’s morning tea. Christmas and Easter will also be celebrated within the programme.
Playgroup would not be able to run without the amazing volunteer leaders and assistants who work tirelessly to provide the children with an amazing programme each week. All have current Working With Children Checks. We also ask that parents/ carers assist with sharing some basic duties each week. Some of these include preparation of fruit, paint pack up and washing up from morning tea.
Playgroup Fees are $60 per child per term and are payable at the beginning of each term.

Kindergarten
Camberwell Baptist Church Kindergarten provides an environment and programs which promote children’s development in a holistic way. Each child is encouraged to develop his/her creative gifts by being involved with a wide variety of stimulating materials and experiences. An awareness of the world around them, community, nature, science, maths, language, music, movement and Christian truth is developed.
Children’s self esteem is enhanced by providing security within well defined behavioural boundaries. Children are prepared for school by encouraging their confidence in their own abilities and learning acceptance of others.
Our kindergarten supports and co-operates with parents, sharing together the excitement as children grow, learn and develop. Opportunities are provided for social interaction of parents and families and our kindergarten staff and church are always available as a resource.
The kinder has both a 3 and 4 year old program, and includes a number of extra activities. Each week the children enjoy learning basic French through songs, games and stories. A qualified teacher runs music program where children explore music by playing instruments, singing and games. Children also have the opportunity to explore dance with a teacher who helps them express themselves, with various props, to different styles of music.

Families
Families are warmly welcome at our Sunday morning service. Our congregation ranges from 1 year olds right up to great grandparents! During term time we run KidSPARK, for children aged 3 to grade 6. From time to time, kids are involved in the service in various ways.
For families with younger kids, our playgroup (run Monday) provides opportunity for mothers/fathers/carers and their preschool children to have fun socializing and learning through playtime. We also have a kindergarten for 3 and 4 year olds, which seeks to provide a happy, caring and secure environment in which kids can learn.
There are a number of activities and events throughout the year, aimed at providing support, fun and friendship for families.
