Jesus makes this profound statement about who he is, and his purpose in the world, he says, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Even though he was the Son of God, in human flesh, who came into this world, Jesus knew his role was not to be served by human hands, but to humbly serve those around him and ultimately sacrifice himself to bring hope and healing to the human heart.
As followers of Jesus, serving is not an optional extra, it is the primary action of a heart that has been transformed by Jesus. That’s what moves us to shape our lives in service of him, in service of others, in service of God’s saving purposes for our community, the whole world.
